A little about the books!

The Blood Gift Duology follows Ikenna, a Black girl in a primarily white society, whose grandfather was instrumental in saving their civilization from an intergalactic colonizing empire. Now, it is decades later and her grandfather has died under very suspicious circumstances. Ikenna has good reason to believe that his death was at the hand of someone in his own military, and her only chance of figuring out exactly who was involved (and getting her revenge) is by participating in the Praetorian Trials, a vicious initiation course that only the strongest survive, before being initiated into the very elite squad where Ikenna suspects her grandfather's killer is hiding. The trials are dangerous, and the people she will be participating in it with even more so. But luckily for her, she was trained by her grandfather, and...she has a secret weapon. She has a blood gift. Supernatural power that she must keep secret at all cost, but power that puts her in the position to do what needs to be done.

Y'all, this is one of the best duologies I have ever read and I recommend it CONSTANTLY. Ikenna is a no-nonsense having Black women who will tear you apart if you get in her way. N.E. Davenport is a master at having conversations about oppression, colonization and the fight for liberation while allowing her FMCs to wield incredible power and to refuse to shy away from their thirst for blood.
