Good evening! I just wanted to update you on some information for book club, for those who want to participate!

The book we will be reading this month is Devil of the Deep, which I have linked down below. If you don't already have a copy, just click it and it will let you purchase from either bookshop.org or amazon.

The book follows a young Black mermaid who has to flee to the above world in order to escape a cult, only to have to band together with a nortorious pirate to evade capture and save the world from utter distruction.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is Black (hatian specifically), it has Black/brown representaiton, queer representation, trans representation and has large conversations about decolonization and deconstructing colonial religion.

This book is truly phenomenal and I encourage all of you to grab a copy and join in the discussions.

Which brings me to _how bookclub works._

I welcome all of you to participate, regardless of the tier you are subscribed to. I will be posting my thoughts on the book probably around once a week, sharing thoughts and prompts so that we can collectively engage in conversation. Those posts will be available for everyone.

However, if you are interested in joining our monthly book club zoom call, where we talk about the book in depth together, please make sure you are subscribed to the Thirsty Readers or the LaBorniacs tiers; the second of which will also have access to my detailed notes on the book that I will share toward the end of the month.

I want to make these conversations as accessible as possible, so please do not feel pressured to join a higher tier if that is not accessible for you. The posts I share for the lower tiers will foster plenty of opportunity for conversation as well! But I would love to see you at our monthly call!

(Also be aware that I will be hosting at least one exclusive zoom call this month just to get to know everyone. That will be available to anyone subscribed to a paid tier.)

Can't wait to read and talk about this book together!
