I came across Falencia because one of my mutuals on Tiktok @amandadevours told me she had found a book that she knew I would love. And she was right. _Devil of the Deep _is one of the best books I have ever read. Not just recently. Ever.

This book follows a teenage mermaid who has to flee her home to escape an underwater cult that is chasing after a mysterious object that can help them raise their island and take over the above world. Now orphaned and lost, she ends up being found by a natorious pirate and the two of them must band together with a disgraced captain of the fleet to resist their enemies and save the world from utter destruction.

This book is filled with magic, the gods, Black and brown characters, queer and trans characters, conversations about colonization, colonial religion and deconstruction.

I cannot reccommend this book more highly! So grab yourself a copy with the link attached to this post, and then go follow the author on tiktok and instagram .

And in addition to me loving this book, it is also our pick for bookclub this month! So grab a copy so that you're ready for bookclub next saturday!
