I started DYB last year with the hopes of investing in Black and brown authors who were being overlooked by a very white-washed industry. I started this company with nothing but a dream. And while I have been able to positively impact the careers of dozens of authors, Deston is the first author whose book I have been able to actually release! And I am so excited that THIS is the book we are launching with.

Tavern follows Xel--an Orc--as he navigates his position as the owner of a neighborhood taven and the leader of the infamous Blackwind company. When he helps the wrong people, he ends up on a hit-list for a group of assassins who have been working to destabalize his city, forcing Xel and his team to band together to not only save his life, but to figure out how to protect everyone else.

This is a classic high-fantasy story, set in an intricate--but digestable--world and easy-to-grasp language. It is filled with magic, fantastical races, mystery, fighting and plenty of action.

Deston wrote this book with the intention of challenging many of the ways that Orc's are used to reinforce aggressive stereotypes surrounding Black people, and in my opinion, he more than accomplished that goal.

Tavern is an incredible story and Deston is deserving of the world!
