Woman Crush Wednesday: Amanda Weaver
Let's talk about another Black female author who deserves the world!
Amanda Weaver is one of the first Black indie authors I came across when I first began my mission to change this industry. I read her book _In the House of Transcendence _well over a year ago at this point and I have not stopped thinking about it. In fact, I recommend it to friends on a regular basis.
_In the House of Transcendence _follows a necromancer who has spent her entire childhood being exploited by her father because of her gifts and, now estranged from her family, moves to a new city and happens upon a community of witches where she can finally belong. And to add icing to the cake, the Matriarch of this new community--and the owner of a local burlesque establishment--just so happens to need a necromancer's help to find her partner's killer. This is a story that will speak to every outcast's heart. It is about abandonment, neglect, found-family, self-discovery and the journey of learning to know and love onesself. It is about a young woman who has never been allowed to learn her own power and is now given the space to figure out exactly who she is.
I often describe this book as a story about a Black necromancer who makes her living as a burlesque dancer, but it is so much more than that. At its core, this is a book about identity. And I couldn't recommend it more.
I am attaching buying options for those of you who want to grab a copy. And please make sure you go give Amanda's socials a follow while you're at it:
P.S. - She also has a new title No One's Gonna Take Her Soul Away that is available for pre-sale. It is about a Black woman who has been unfairely sent to the seventh level of hell and has to fight her way out.
